Brunello di Montalcino 2016 - Tenuta Greppo - Biondi Santi - 97+/100 Parker
De Brunello di Montalcino Annata van Biondi Santi is het resultaat van 200 jaar onderzoek en verbetering van de Sangiovese Grosso druiven, die zijn geselecteerd van de druivenranken van de Greppo wijngaard. Biondi Santi is de grondlegger van de Brunello wijnen, die zij voor het eerst in 1888 maakten. De druivenstokken op deze wijngaard zijn minimaal 12 tot 25 jaar oud. De Brunello wijnen van Biondi Santi worden nog volledig traditioneel gemaakt en kennen een lange rijpingstijd tot wel 50 jaar.
De druiven zijn eind september met de hand geplukt. De wijngaarden zijn gelegen op een hoogte tussen de 300 en 500 meter. De grondsoort van de wijngaard Greppo is marl, zand en klei. Na de oogst vond de fermentatie plaats in tanks van cement bij een temperatuur onder de 31Cº. De eerste gisting duurde ca. 15 tot 20 dagen. De rijping van de wijn is geschiedt gedurende een periode van 36 maanden in sloveens eiken vaten. Vervolgens is de wijn nog minimaal 4 maanden verder op de fles gerijpt.
Deze iconische Brunello di Montalcino van Biondi Santi, oogstjaar 2016, begint langzaam op dronk te komen in 2026, maar daarna heeft u tot 2047 de tijd om optimaal te genieten van deze unieke, fantastisch mooie Brunello uit het legendarische oogstjaar 2016. Decanteer de wijn om alle prachtige en heerlijke geuren en smaken te ontdekken. Drink de wijn op een temperatuur van maximaal 18Cº.

From a benchmark vintage, the Biondi-Santi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a gorgeous appearance with medium concentration highlighted by shiny hues of garnet and dark ruby. The first thing you notice is the compact dark fruit and rather robust textural fiber and power presented here. You almost bite into this wine, and you taste some fine grain linked to the young tannins. That, with the fresh acidity that is the hallmark signature of this estate, guarantees long cellar aging, and I would put my money on this vintage for long-long-term longevity. The fruit is compact and supple with dried cherry, blue flower, iron ore and candied orange peel. There is tobacco, balsam herb and gardening soil in a supporting role, and the wine is beautifully fleshed out but also rich in this balanced growing season. It surely needs more time to come together with pinpoint precision, but the wine's elegance is a certainty.

A little shy and understated on the nose now, with savory red plums, ash, pretty red berries, new leather and minerals. Very nimble, juicy and polished on the palate with medium body and a mouthful of seamless and evenly enveloped tannins. A linear and refined expression with an austere edge. Lay it down until 2026, to allow it to unfurl more complexity.

This features a well of blackberry and black cherry flavors, along with iron, licorice and fresh herb aromas and flavors. The dense tannins are easily matched by the concentrated flavors, and this shows fine potential, despite the compact finish now. Best from 2025 through 2045.
